Joining an Affiliate Program

Starting your own online business can be somewhat expensive.  You’ll need to have an existing line of products set up to sell and ship off, and you may have to spend a good amount of money on building up this inventory.  However, there is one way you can make money without the up-front cost of inventory.

One of these ways is to join an affiliate program.  These programs are usually run by other companies that produce products.  Here’s how an affiliate program works.  Your internet business partners with this other company.  This company makes all of the products, but they don’t sell or market them.  That’s where you come in.  You market their products by incorporating their online shopping system into your own website.  When people visit your site and purchase products, you get a percentage of the total sale.  In return, the other company doesn’t have to pay for marketing.

Many of these affiliate programs also offer bonuses for those partners who reach certain quotas each month.  Many also provide their partner companies with marketing tools, promotional ads, and more to assist them in getting visitors to their website.  Some also help you design your website or even host your site for free.

Joining an affiliate program may not be what you want to do with your online site.  After all, you’re still working for another company in a way.  However, joining an affiliate can teach you how to do online marketing.  One good way to get some experience in online marketing and promotions is to join an affiliate, work with them for six months or so, and then leave the program.  This way, you get the experience, some marketing tools, and a little bit of extra money while you’re learning.
